BIMRAD had the privilege of hosting Dr. Stefan Alfred Groenewold, Principal Advisor and Commission Manager for Biodiversity-Sector at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), along with his team. The visit marked a significant milestone as discussions focused on fostering collaboration between GIZ and BIMRAD in key areas of ecosystem restoration, conserve biodiversity, blue carbon mapping, environmental management, and the signiface of promoting maritime literacy for coastal resilience and community capacity and awareness building, etc.
The engaging discussions emphasized GIZ's ongoing efforts to conserve ecosystems and enhance coordination among relevant authorities. Highlighting these initiatives, a green protective belt of mangroves has already been established along Bangladesh’s coast. Key objectives include protecting the Sundarbans—the world’s largest contiguous mangrove forest—and improving the management of the Swatch of No Ground marine protected area.
The meeting set the stage for integrating additional dimension of expertize , supported by BIMRAD. This collaboration underscores a shared commitment to sustainable environmental stewardship and a resilient marine ecosystem for Bangladesh.
