Biography

Rear Admiral Md. Zohir Uddin, NUP, ndc, afwc, psc joined as Acting Chairman of Bangladesh Institute of Maritime Research and Development (BIMRAD) on 29th March 2023. Presently he is also serving as Assistant Chief of Naval Staff (Logistics), Bangladesh Navy. He was promoted to the present rank on 28th March 2023. Prior taking the Office of Chairman BIMRAD and ACNS (Log), he has served as Directorate of Naval Stores. Rear Admiral Md. Zohir Uddin, NUP, ndc, afwc, psc joined Bangladesh Navy in 1985 as an Officer Cadet and was commissioned in Logistics Branch. During long 35 years of illustrious career, Admiral held many important command, staff and instructional appointments in the Naval Headquarters as well as in the Area and Unit level organisations. His important assignments include Commanding Officer of BN Central Naval Stores Depot, Commanding Officer of BN School of Logistics and Management; Director of Naval Stores and Director of Pay and Accounts at Naval Headquarters; Deputy Director of Naval Budget; General Manager (Finance) Dockyard and Engineering Works Ltd Narayanganj and Deputy General Manager (Finance) of Khulna Shipyard Ltd; Inspector of Academies and Director of Plans at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University Bangladesh, and Director Purchase (Navy) at DGDP.

 

He has attended number of courses both at home and abroad. He did International Junior Officers’ Supply Course at HMS RALEIGH, UK and earned his logistics specialization from BN School of Logistics and Management. He is a graduate of Defence Services Command and Staff College, Mirpur. He did his second Staff Course at Naval Staff College, USA. He has done Armed Forces War Course (afwc) and National Defence Course (ndc) from National Defence College Mirpur. He has also done Senior International Defence Management Course at Naval Postgraduate School, USA.  He obtained Masters in Defence Studies from the National University and Masters in Business Administration from the University of South Asia. Currently, he is pursuing PhD at Bangladesh University of Professionals.

 

The officer has served under the ‘Blue Beret’ in the Headquarters of United Nations Mission in Liberia as international peacekeeper. The officer is a recipient of Bangladesh Navy Shuddachar Award and Bangladesh Navy Medal of Excellence (NUP). As a young officer, he used to participate in the long endurance swimming, sailing and tennis completion of BN. He loves to read and travel. He is married and blessed with one daughter and one son.
