A roundtable discussion on 'The Role of Media in National Security' organized by the Bangladesh Institute of Peace and Security Studies (BIPSS) took place on 22 August 2023 at the Westin in Dhaka.

Moderated by Major General ANM Muniruzzaman (retd), President of BIPSS, the event emphasized the multifaceted importance of media in national security. Major General Muniruzzaman highlighted media's roles as a source of truth, an agent of accountability, and a protector of public interest. He urged citizens to consume news critically and support trustworthy media. Zafar Sobhan, Dhaka Tribune's editor, discussed media's role in accountability, including in public finance and actions in the public domain. Sudeep Chakravarty from C-SAS emphasized incorporating media to understand internal security dynamics. Brigadier General Shahedul Anam Khan (retd) discussed national security's conceptual meaning and its basis in realism, liberalism, and good governance. The roundtable discussion was attended by ambassadors, foreign diplomats, officials, retired civil and military bureaucrats, academics, and media persons.
