World Oceans Day, officially recognized by the United Nations since 2008, is celebrated yearly under various themes. Dhaka University Department of Oceanography organized a vibrant seminar at the university campus to commemorate World Oceans Day 2023, with the theme " Revealing the Potentials of Blue Economy.

The Seminar was honored by the Ministry of Information Dr. Hasan Mahmud as the chief guest. He acknowledged Bangladesh's progress in development and emphasized the importance of protecting the environment, particularly the oceans. Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr. ASM Maksud Kamal chaired the Seminar and called for a ban on polythene bags and other items to mitigate environmental pollution.

A good number of participants (Govt. & Non-Govt. officials, researchers, and experts on related fields) from different national and international sectors participated in the session. Research Officer’s from BIMRAD participated in the Seminar and shared their views in the discussion session.
