High Commissioner of Australia in Bangladesh H.E Ms Julia Niblett and Deputy Head of Mission Ms Penny Morton had a call on with former CNS of Bangladesh Navy & Chairman of BIMRAD Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed, NBP, OSP, BCGM, ndc, psc (retd) and BIMRAD officials on 18 December 2019. At the very begging of the discussion Advisor, BIMRAD, Rear Admiral Kazi Sarwar Hossain briefed on recent activities of BIMRAD. During the discussion with the Chairman and BIMRAD officials, the Australian High Commissioner well appreciated the initiatives of BIMRAD concerning research and awareness building activities and stressed upon collective effort for the development of maritime connectivity among the IOR member countries. She also mentioned that as Bangladesh has been elected as Vice Chairman of Indian Ocean Rim Association (IORA) for the period of 2019-21 and eventually as IORA Chairman for 2021-23, so Bangladesh could focus on to strengthen maritime connectivity among the IOR member states. It was discussed during the meeting that Australia and Bangladesh could exchange knowledge, know-how and experts concerning the development of blue economy. In this regard she again pointed the scope of Bangladesh Institute of Maritime Research and Development to work in collaboration with the maritime institutes and universities of Australia concerning research and capacity building for the sustainable development of both the countries and the Indian Ocean littorals.
