On 20th January 2020, the research team led by Dr. Zeng Xiangyu, associate professor of the Institute of South Asian Studies (ISAS), Sichuan University, China visited Bangladesh Institute of Maritime Research and Development (BIMRAD) to discuss issues of mutual interest. At the outset, brief concerned the respective institutes were presented from both the parties.
During the discussion, the parties identified a number of probable areas of co-operation namely conduct research and awareness building activities on non-traditional maritime threats, maritime good governance, maritime cooperation among the BoB littorals, China-Myanmar economic corridor: opportunity for Bangladesh, Indo-Pacific strategy, maritime silk road initiatives of China, climate change, sea level rise, Bay of Bengal studies, maritime history and heritage of China & Bangladesh and prospects of maritime tourism as well. Researchers from both the institutes highlighted to establish and maintain cooperation with ISAS, Sichuan University, China through signing Memorandum of Understanding and agreed to step ahead concerning joint publication in English and Chinese language, exchange of maritime experts, participation of BIMRAD officials in different capacity building and educational programmes of the ISAS and organize seminars and/or conference collaboratively. The discussion was moderated by the DG, BIMRAD, Commodore Kazi Emdadul Haq (retd).
