Visit of Former Chief of Sri Lankan Navy at BIMRAD

Admiral Professor Jayanath Colombage RSP, VSV, USP, rcds, psc (retd) paid a visit to Bangladesh Institute of Maritime Research and Development (BIMRAD) on 27 November, 2019. During the visit, possible areas of maritime co-operation between Sri Lanka and Bangladesh was the main core of discussion. The former Sri Lankan Navy Chief stressed upon collective effort of BIMRAD and Pathfinder Foundation, Sri Lanka concerning maritime strategy and security in the Bay of Bengal and Indian Ocean. He also mentioned that Bangladesh and a neighboring country like India and Sri Lanka could work collaboratively concerning the Humanitarian Aid and Disaster Relief (HADR) mission in the BoB as well. During the discussion, several important aspects that need to be addressed and studied by both organizations were identified. Chairman, BIMRAD Admiral Nizamuddin Ahmed, NBP, OSP, BCGM, ndc, psc (retd) pointed the further areas of cooperation between Bangladesh Institute of Maritime Research and Development and Pathfinder Foundation, Sri Lanka to work in collaboration concerning research and policy advocacy including exchange of scholars, organizing seminars and conferences for the sustainable blue economy development of both the countries and the BoB littorals. The recommendations from the discussion taken include the joint study concerning maritime strategy for the Bay of Bengal and the production of a result-based significant strategic document to be presented to the strategic leaders and policy makers of both the countries.
