A seminar titled "Evaluating Matarbari Deep Sea Port's Sustainability Roadmap: A Triple Bottom Line Approach" was held on May 13, 2024, at the National Science and Technology Complex in Dhaka. The Institute of Bay of Bengal and Bangladesh Studies of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University (BSMRMU) and the Bangladesh Institute of Maritime Research and Development (BIMRAD) jointly organized the event. The seminar was honored by BSMRMU Vice-Chancellor Rear Admiral Mohammad Musa as the Chief Guest. Special Guests included Rear Admiral Md. Zohir Uddin, Acting Chairman of BIMRAD, and Her Excellency Irma van Dueren, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Bangladesh.
The seminar featured an interactive session with participation from various sectors, including academia, policymakers, navy officers, and students. Speakers expressed a strong sense of optimism about Bangladesh's future economic growth, foreseeing significant progress through the development of seaports and the expansion of maritime trade. Additionally, the seminar explored the research outcomes and sustainability aspects associated with the Matarbari Deep Sea Port project. The session was highly interactive, with many excellent suggestions from stakeholders. Their active participation made the session particularly fruitful.
